This year’s Emmy Awards in America saw one colour trending – red. Heidi Klum, 41, looked fabulous and showed how a simple long red dress can be worn with the minimum of fuss to create maximum style.
Okay, so not many of us will get to stand on the red carpet. However, we can all use a splash of red to bring glamour to our everyday lives. Here are my top tips for on how to get that Hollywood style without breaking the bank.
Nothing says “confident” as much as red lipstick. With shades varying from rich berries to fruity tangerines, there is a red out there to suit everyone. Not sure which shade to go for? Then ask a professional. Simply pop along to your nearest department store where you will find expert staff on make-up counters very willing to not only show you what red suits you best, but how to balance it with the rest of your make-up.
Glamour? You’ve got it nailed!
Hands often get neglected, so why not make some time to have a manicure? Whether you decide on a pamper at home or a special treat in a salon, opting for red nails is sure to give you an instant lift. As with lipsticks, there are shades to suit everyone, but my particular favourite at the moment is Chanel’s “475 – Dragon” red.
Okay, so you have the lips and you have the nails – but what to wear? Rather than paying out for a whole new red wardrobe, my advice is to accessorise. This will give you maximum flexibility and minimum outlay. Here are a few of my favourite items.
Red shoes don’t necessarily sound like a “must have” item, but they are so much more fun than black or nude. This lovely red patent pair, reasonably priced at £39, from Dune has caught my eye. High Heel Shoes
Jeans and a classic white shirt can be livened up by a pair of stunning red shoes. Conservative navy or black outfits can be transformed by the bold addition of red shoes.
Taylor Shilling showed us at the Emmys that popping on red shoes with a contrasting purple dress can look fabulous!
The Seres pure silk Marrakech scarf would also look fab with this as it combines the red and purple brilliantly!
A handbag can be one of the most important purchases you make, so ensure you choose a good one. Make it a red one and it can liven up even the dullest day. I’m loving the new Jane Shilton “Rook Top Handle” bag for £79.
So, now I’ve got the nails, lips, bag and outfit sorted – all I need is the A-List star date!
