Our new Shibori notebooks by Castelli are gorgeous. But what exactly is Shibori?
Put simply, it is the name given to a specialist Japanese technique used for dyeing fabric. Its distinct blue and white designs are instantly recognizable and can be incorporated on everything from dresses to cushions and, yes, even notebooks!
To start, the fabric is twisted, folded or bunched. It is then bound. These processes can use a range of items including wooden blocks, rubber bands and even twine and string.
A traditional blue dye from the indigo plant is usually used. The fabric is dipped in the dye but where it has been secured, there is more resistance. This results in less or no dye being absorbed.
The result is a wonderfully flowing, almost watercolour effect.
To own your little bit of Shibori, why not choose from one of our beautiful notebooks?
